🤝 Meet the Players.
Let’s kick things off with a few of the current big players in AI applications.
You will hear the term "Large Language Model" (LLM) used to describe ChatGPT. Put simply, it is a chat bot that you can ask pretty much anything and get an answer. If I were to explain it to my mom, I would just say it's like Alexa on steroids without any ads. Try it out, it has a free version! Oh, and a piece of advice: be super descriptive in your question to get better results.
This is currently my favorite AI application! MidJourney is what is called a Generative Model or "text-to-image" tool. You describe or "prompt" what you want to see, like "a woman riveter standing next to a plane illustration from World War II," and the AI generates it. You can also mess around with it yourself with a free trial.
Note: This image is 2 months old, and MidJourney has since gotten WAY better!
Audio AI is here, for better or worse. ElevenLabs has developed an application that can clone a person’s voice. It has already been used to scam people out of money. Eight senior citizens in Canada lost a combined $200,000 from a scammer impersonating a relative. It can also emulate famous music artists to create AI-generated music. A couple of videos of Jay-Z and Kayne West AI-generated songs have gone viral.
🌎 Around the Web.
IndieHackers, bootstrappers, and one-person side hustles are going crazy developing new products and apps in the AI space. Here are a few over the last couple of months that caught my eye.
🛠️ The Best Open Source Tools.
If you are a little technically inclined, you can run something similar to ChatGPT on your computer using this repository on GitHub.
